Welcome to our blog! We are a young, growing family living in Portland, Oregon. Like so many families today, we were feeling overwhelmed by the increasing cost of living and the constant pressure to achieve the "American Dream". The life we had envisioned for ourselves always seemed to be just out of reach. Rather than continue the seemingly endless struggle to earn more, buy more, and achieve more, we decided to redefine our ideas about wealth and success.
Our do-it-yourself, back-to-the-basics approach to life will quickly become apparent, as will our desire to reduce our family's ecological footprint, build a stronger connection with our community, and spend more time playing with our children than driving them through a busy, super-kid schedule. We hope to show that a family can do more than just survive on a single moderate income, that the home can be a powerful starting place for social change, and that by wanting less you can gain so much more.
